How do I scan a page?
Type the page’s address into the box on the home page and press Scan my site. There’s no account to make. The report usually arrives in about 20 seconds, and it gets its own link you can come back to.
-
Enter the address
On the home page, type the address of the page you want checked into the box labelled Your site URL. A bare domain such as yoursite.com is fine: we read that one page, which for a domain is its home page. To check a different page, enter its full address.
Leave the box empty and the form asks you to “Enter a website address to scan.” If the address you enter redirects somewhere else, we follow it and scan where it lands, and the report says so in a “Heads up” line at the top.
-
Press Scan my site
Before each scan, a quick check makes sure a real browser is asking. You won’t normally notice it. If a privacy extension or content blocker stops it, you’ll see “We couldn’t verify your browser”: press Try again, or allow this page in your blocker and scan again.
-
Wait about 20 seconds
While we read the page, the screen says “Devouring” and the address, with “This usually takes about 20 seconds.” There’s nothing to do in the meantime. We fetch the page the way a crawler would, along with the site files every page shares, such as robots.txt and the sitemap.
-
Read the report
The report opens with a verdict and a score out of 100, then every check we ran. The next guide walks through it from top to bottom.
-
Scan it again after a change
Changed something? Press Rescan this page at the top of the report. The new scan is added to that page’s history, and the earlier one stays exactly as it was, under its own link. To check somewhere else, press Scan another site.
The form scans one page at a time. To scan a sample of a whole site instead, use the Scan a whole site button in the Site scan card; a site scan needs a free account, because it runs in the background for several minutes.
