Can I give AI agents instructions for using my product?
An Agent Skill is a short instruction file that teaches an AI agent to do one job well with your product: when to use it, which API to call, which conventions to follow. An Agent Skills index is the list of those files on your domain. We check whether you publish one where agents look for it.
What it actually is
Picture the laminated card a good restaurant gives a new waiter: the specials, how the till works, what never to say to a regular. A skill is that card for an AI agent, written in Markdown. The index is the stack of cards, with a fingerprint for each one so an agent can tell that the card it downloaded is the card you published.
Why it matters
An agent that guesses how to use your product gets it subtly wrong: the deprecated endpoint, the wrong parameter, the step it should have skipped. Skills let you write the right way down once. Publishing them on your own domain means any agent can pick them up from the source, rather than from a copy someone made months ago.
What good looks like
An index on your domain listing each skill you maintain, with a name and description that say when it applies, a working link to each file, and fingerprints that match what is actually served.
Being honest about it
This is an Advanced check, so it never fails a page and stays out of your headline score. The skill format is well established, but publishing an index on your own domain is a draft convention led by Cloudflare, and adoption is concentrated among developer-tool companies. If your product has no API or nothing an agent would do with it, a warning here is the expected result.
Where most sites go wrong
The usual issue is skills that live only inside a code repository or a single assistant's marketplace, never published on the company's own domain. Where an index does exist, the classic fault is a fingerprint that no longer matches because a skill file was edited and the index was not rebuilt, which a careful agent will refuse to load.
